Winter Is Coming: Prep with These Fall Drinks

The season of prep, fall was traditionally reserved for chopping wood, storing apples, growing beards and knitting scarves for the long winter ahead. Thankfully our rituals have evolved to include the drinking of fall drinks. Here are four to prepare for the imminent cold.

The season of prep, fall was traditionally reserved for chopping wood, storing apples, growing beards and knitting scarves for the long winter ahead. But for us 21st-century folk, with our space heaters and Fresh Direct, fall is more about stowing away apple cider donuts, stalking cashmere flash sales and drinking fall drinks, like New York bartender Katie Stipe’s apple and cinnamon-infused Fall Monty or a hot riff on America’s favorite (and heavy-handed) Philadelphia Fish House Punch.

Over on the the West Coast, where the season slinks in like a lamb, San Francisco’s Trick Dog is still busy gathering last of summer’s herbs for both its savory tequila fizz, the Libra, and the I Am … I Said—a minty, malty mash-up of a Mint Julep and a Sherry Cobbler. No coat required. Yet.

No matter where you’re ushering in the season, these four drinks will make it just a little bit easier to say, “See ya later, summer.”
