Bruja Smash Spring Drink Recipe

“I had read in some cooking manual or been told by a chef that anise paired well with red fruits,” says Seattle bartender Andrew Bohrer on how he first started using Strega. “I first began using it in a drink with gin and fresh raspberries.” His Bruja Smash doesn’t stray too far from that early attempt and pairs Strega with tequila, lemon, mint and raspberries for a savory-fruity riff on a classic smash.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 1 ounce tequila
  • 1 ounce Strega
  • 1/4 ounce lemon juice
  • 6-9 mint leaves
  • 4-6 raspberries
  • simple syrup to taste

Garnish: Mint sprig

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a shaking tin, then add ice and shake.
  2. Strain over crushed ice.
  3. Top with additional crushed ice.
  4. Garnish with a mint sprig.
