How to #SpritzFrench: Official Rules

Join PUNCH and St-Germain in finding the archetypical French spritz recipe—could it be yours?

What does it mean to #SpritzFrench?

The French spritz is both creative and innovative. Inspired by the tradition of the aperitif and the seasonal bounty of French ingredients, the French spritz exhibits an element of the unexpected. Aside from sparkling wine, it considers ingredients like vermouth, quinquina wines and bitter liqueurs as a base. Garnish is also essential to the spritz—from classic citrus to abundant herbs and flowers. And finally, elegant glassware plays a key role in presenting the French spritz in its most thoughtful state.

How do you #SpritzFrench?

Show us how you #SpritzFrench by sharing your recipe for an original creation alongside a photo on Instagram. Recipes must include at least ½ ounce of St-Germain and include a sparkling component (wine, soda, tonic, ginger beer, kombucha, etc).

PUNCH will select 5 finalists from #SpritzFrench submissions that best embody the French perspective on spritzing and their own creativity and will be judged on the basis of concept, execution, taste, and presentation. The finalists will have their recipes published on PUNCH alongside original photography.

From the pool of finalists, one winner will be selected to win the grand prize, a two-night trip to New York, dinner for two and a special opportunity to spritz with a member of L’Equipe St-Germain.



– Recipe must include 1/2 ounce of St-Germain

– Cocktail be sparkling (can be topped with soda, tonic, ginger beer, and/or wine)

– Recipe must include name of drink, quantities of ingredients (listed in ounces, bar spoons, dashes, etc) and instructions for preparing

The Fine Print:

– Recipe must be posted with both #SpritzFrench and #Contest in the body of the caption

– Recipe must be posted on or before December 17th, 2018

– Entrants must be 25+ years of age

Submissions will be judged on concept, execution, taste, presentation by PUNCH and St-Germain.

How to Spritz French Social Contest


IMPORTANT: Please read these Official Rules before entering the How to Spritz French Social Contest (the “Contest”), presented by division of Penguin Random House LLC (“Sponsor”) and St-Germain (“Partner”). By entering the Contest, you agree to the terms of these Official Rules. These Official Rules shall govern in the event of any inconsistency with other Contest-related materials.

Penguin Random House is the sole sponsor of this Contest, which is no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram.


ELIGIBILITY:  The Contest is open to residents of the forty-eight (48) contiguous United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) and the District of Columbia, who are 25 years of age or older at time of entry. Entrants must have a public Instagram profile.  All federal, state, and local regulations apply. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED. Employees of Sponsor, Partner, and their parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, and agencies, and their immediate family members and persons living in their household are not eligible to enter the Contest.

ENTRY PERIOD: The Contest begins at 12:01 AM (EST) on October 4, 2018, and ends at 11:59 PM (EST) on December 17, 2018.

HOW TO ENTER:  Enter by posting a photograph/recipe to your Instagram account of a sparkling cocktail that includes ½ ounce of St-Germain using the hashtags #SpritzFrench and #Contest. Recipe must include name of drink, quantities of ingredients, and instructions for preparing.

Your entry must meet the following requirements: (a) the content of the cocktail must not exceed  11 oz.; (b) you may not use flames near alcohol; (c) your entry may not be targeted to people under 21 years old; (d) your entry may not encourage, condone, promote, or glamorize under-age, excessive, or irresponsible consumption of alcohol products, drunk driving, or any behavior considered to be anti-social, illegal, or immoral or suggest that the consumption of beverage alcohol will lead to social or sexual success; (e) your entry must comply with the Code of Responsible Practices for Beverage Alcohol Advertising and Marketing of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, Inc.

In the case of a dispute, entries will be deemed made by the authorized holder of the Instagram account used for entry.  Automated entries are prohibited, and use of any automated devices will result in disqualification.  Sponsor is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of information by entrants; lost or late entries or transmissions; interrupted or unavailable network, server, or other connections; scrambled transmissions or other errors or problems of any kind whether mechanical, human, or electronic, technical malfunctions of any computer hardware, software, or any combinations thereof; or problems associated with any virus or any other damage caused to entrants’ systems.  Incomplete or ineligible entries will be voided.   All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. If for any reason the Contest is not capable of being conducted as described in these rules, Sponsor shall have the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.

Comments and/or posts including photographs may not include obscene, offensive or inappropriate (in Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion) material or defame any person, or otherwise infringe on any person’s proprietary rights.  If you are posting a photograph, you must have permission from the photographer (or be the photographer yourself). If any person appears in the photograph, that person must be at least 25, and you must have permission from any persons who appear in the photo before submitting it.

PRIVACY POLICY: All information submitted in connection with entry to this Contest shall be governed by Sponsor’s privacy policy (at http://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/privacy/). By entering this Contest, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this privacy policy.


One (1) Grand Prize Winner(s) will receive the following:

– Airfare for two (2) to New York;

– $450 Uber gift card to be used for ground transportation;

– Two (2) nights accommodation for two (2) in New York;

– Welcome drinks;

– Dinner for two (2) in New York;

– Lunch and cocktail tasting with a member of L’Equipe St-Germain;

– Two (2) copies of How to Drink French Fluently;

– Two (2) St-Germain Spritz cocktail essentials kits; and

– Two (2) Punch tote bags.

(Grand Prize Approximate Retail Value: $3,330)

Trip to New York must take place between April 1, 2019 and May 31, 2019.

Winner is responsible for any expenses not expressly included in the prize description, such as personal expenses; travel and health insurance; meals; beverages; gratuities and any additional hotel expenses such as telephone calls, incidentals and upgrades or other charges that may arise.

Hotel accommodation is subject to capacity controls, availability, blackout dates and certain other restrictions, all of which are subject to change. Once travel arrangements have been confirmed, no changes will be allowed except by Sponsor or its designee. An unclaimed and/or unused prize travel package will remain the property of Sponsor or its designee.

No transfer or cash or other substitution of all or part of a prize is permitted, except by Sponsor, which reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute the prize or prize component with another of comparable or greater value. Any and all taxes on the prize will be the responsibility of the winners. Sponsor shall not be responsible for any delays, damage in the delivery of the prize, and/or loss of any prize in connection with delivery of the prize via mail.  In the event that there is an insufficient number of eligible entries, Sponsor reserves the right not to award the prizes.

JUDGING/WINNER SELECTION:  One (1) Grand Prize Winner(s) will be selected by the PUNCH team and St-Germain on or about January 21, 2019 from all eligible entries received by the entry deadline. Entries will be judged on concept, execution, taste, and presentation with equal weight being given to each criterion. The decisions of the Sponsor with respect to the selection of the winners, and in regard to all matter relating to this Contest, shall be final and binding. Winners will be notified via a comment by Sponsor that he/she is a potential winner and Sponsor will provide an email address (or other contact information) where he/she can make a prize claim.  Winners must respond to such notifications within ten (10) days of receipt. Winners must provide Sponsor will full contact details in order to be awarded the prize.  Winners may also be required to complete, execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release. Noncompliance with these conditions may result in forfeiture of the Prize, and Sponsor reserves the right to select alternate winners (in random drawing from other eligible entries received before the deadline) in such circumstance. If winner notification of the Prize is returned as undeliverable, Sponsor may, at its discretion, select an alternate winner.

DISCLAIMERS:  By competing in this Contest and/or accepting the prize, entrants agree that Sponsor, Partner, Instagram and their respective parent companies, assigns, subsidiaries and affiliates, and advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and all of their respective employees, officers and directors will have no liability whatsoever, and will be held harmless by entrants for any liability for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind to person and property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession, misuse, or use of the prizes, or participation in this Contest. By entering the Contest, each Entrant consents and grants Sponsor and Partner a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free license to use their name, city, comments, photographs and/or other likenesses and their entries for publicity, advertising or informational purposes, including without limitation, posting on Sponsor’s Contest website (punchdrink.com), Facebook pages, Twitter or Instagram accounts, with no additional compensation or further permission (except where prohibited by law).

Any dispute arising from this Contest will be determined according to the laws of the State of New York, without reference to its conflict of law principles, and by entering the entrants consent to the personal jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New York County and agree that such courts have exclusive jurisdiction over all such disputes.
