Bars are Buying Whiskey by the Barrel

When a bottle of single-barrel whiskey is not enough, only the barrel itself will do. Robert Simonson reports for The New York Times on the growing number of bars and restaurants heading to Kentucky to pick their very own barrels from the rickhouse including Middle Branch in New York, Barrelhouse Flat in Chicago and Trick Dog in San Francisco. Depending on the source, a whole barrel might “cost anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000.” Anyone want to go splitsies? [The New York Times]
