Burgundy Once Again Devastated by Hail

For the third year in a row, Burgundy vineyards have been severely damaged by hail, according to JancisRobinson.com. A couple of devastating hailstorms wrought havoc in the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, and the damage looks serious. “This is a real disaster,” says Jean-Louis Moissenet, president of the Volnay appellation. “We had counted on a good harvest and everything is destroyed.”

Vignerons are currently inspecting their vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, and the full extent of the damage will be assessed in a few days. One thing is for sure: This is bad news for both wine producers and Burgundy drinkers. [Jancis Robinson] [Photo: Flickr/mtellin]
