Knicks Star Soaks in Wine Baths

Stoudemire lead

There were some moments of “Wait, WHAT?” when Amar Stoudemire Instagrammed a bathtub selfie as he soaked in what looked very much like red wine (#Kinging). ESPN confirms that yes, Stoudemire was soaking in wine, which is part of his current spa therapy program. Apparently his wife tipped him off to the treatment, and he claims to feel rejuvenated.

The scientific evidence is still out for examination, but according to Caudalíe Vinothérapie, bathing in red wine purportedly does the body good claiming it imparts “antioxidant power.” Its polyphenols are purported to “reinforce the microcirculation, protect elastin and collagen fibers and prevent the destruction of the fundamental elements of the skin’s support tissues.”

Averaging 22 minutes a game last year with the New York Knicks, Stoudemire is being paid special attention, and his coaches are allowing him to sit out on practices. He’s been bathing in wine for six months now, and follows up sessions with a 90-minute massage.

ESPN wanted to know if the wine was of “high quality,” but Stoudemire says hasn’t tasted the stuff he’s soaking in. Because, well, that’d be a little bit like drinking your own bath water.  [ESPN] [Image: Flickr/mikenitro94]
