The Cocktail Book Business Continues to Boom

Cocktail books are seeing a renaissance with a load of new titles, including Robert Simonson’s The Old Fashioned and Jeffrey Morgenthaler’s The Bar Book, coming on the scene this spring and summer. We’re already anticipating the epic Death & Co. book this fall, and up next will be the newly announced The Modern Classics by Robert Simonson (as reported by Eater), which will chronicle 25 contemporary drinks that have helped to shape the recent rise of the cocktail world. The big question is how he’ll define “modern classic” and which drinks will be included. The Penicillin? The Bramble? Get ready for controversy.

Martin Cate of Smuggler’s Cove has also scored a book deal devoted to tiki and “its roots in 1930s Hollywood through its mid-century heyday to the craft tiki revival now in full swing,” as noted on Publishers Marketplace. Both Simonson’s book and Smuggler’s Cove: Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki will be published by Ten Speed Press. [Eater] [Photo: PUNCH]
