London Gin

(n.): Also known as London dry, this crisp, classic style is made around the world. The style evolved in the nineteenth century as a restrained opposition to the sweeter and more flamboyant Old Tom and genever gins. Legally, the gin cannot contain any artificial flavors and must be distilled to at least 70 percent alcohol before being mixed with water and, optionally, a tiny amount of sugar. The clean profile makes this style a good choice for lighter cocktails such as the gin and tonic.
