Metaxa

(n.): A Greek brand of flavored brandy. Created in 1888, the proprietary recipe contains grape brandy, muscat wine and botanicals. The sweet spirit has notes of citrus, honey, caramel and herbs. It is categorized according to how long it has been aged in French oak barrels (three, five and seven years are the most common versions). Younger bottlings are best served with juice or soda or mixed into cocktails, while older versions work well neat or on the rocks.
