A Snowball’s Chance

This tiki-Christmas riff on the Old-Fashioned from Boilermaker’s Sam Gauthier swaps in Scotch for whiskey and pineapple gomme syrup for sweetener and adds a dash of absinthe for good measure.

“This drink had to have touch of smoke to it,” he says, in reference to the second half of the idiom referenced in the cocktail’s name, “and what better way than with Scotch?”

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 2 ounces Scotch
  • 2 ounces Scotch
  • 1/4 ounce pineapple gomme syrup
  • 1/4 ounce pineapple gomme syrup
  • 2 dashes bitters, preferably Dale Degroff
  • 2 dashes bitters, preferably Dale Degroff
  • 1 dash absinthe
  • 1 dash absinthe

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin and shake with ice.
  2. Strain into an Old-Fashioned glass over a large ice cube.
