This drink was adapted from G. Selmer Foughner’s 1935 book Along the Wine Trail. It’s a rare example of a stirred drink that contains juice.  “It’s a Manhattan with a little bit of juice in it,” says Al Sotack.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 2 ounces rye whiskey, preferably Wild Turkey
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey, preferably Wild Turkey
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth, preferably Dolin
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth, preferably Dolin
  • 1/2 ounce pineapple juice
  • 1/2 ounce pineapple juice

Garnish: lemon twist

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass over ice and stir until chilled.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe.
  3. Garnish with lemon twist.
