Caffè Tonic

A modern take on the bittersweet after-dinner refresher.

In Italy, ammazzacaffè (meaning “coffee killer”) is a custom that marks the transition from dolci and caffè with a small glass of amaro, to mellow out the caffeine for a spirited ending to dinner. This Averna-spiked Caffè Tonic is a modern way to have the best of both worlds.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 2 ounces Averna
  • 2 ounces Averna
  • 2 ounces cold brew coffee
  • 2 ounces cold brew coffee
  • 2 ounces tonic water
  • 2 ounces tonic water

Garnish: mint

Directions
  1. Add Averna and cold brew coffee to a chilled Collins glass filled with crushed ice.
  2. Stir or swizzle to combine.
  3. Top with chilled tonic water, adding more crushed ice if needed.
  4. Garnish with fresh mint.
