How did this misguided Roll Tide! rallying cry of a drink end up in legendary bartender Dale DeGroff’s 2002 book, The Craft of the Cocktail?

“[The] Alabama Slammer is in the book simply because when I was a waiter and a fledgling bartender in the 1970s, people ordered it,” says DeGroff. However reluctant the inclusion, DeGroff’s version is about as good as this dark-ages drink gets.
