Green Swizzle

According to Imbibe!, the Green Swizzle reigned supreme in the Caribbean from the late 1890s through the 1930s, before being dethroned by the Daiquiri #2. A Rum Swizzle made green by the addition of wormwood bitters (or crème de menthe, by some accounts), the recipe cited here originally appeared in a 1908 edition of the New York Herald.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 1 1/2 ounces rum
  • 1 1/2 ounces rum
  • 1 ounce falernum
  • 1 ounce falernum
  • 1 barspoon wormwood bitters
  • 1 barspoon wormwood bitters

Directions
  1. In a tall glass, combine all ingredients.
  2. Half fill glass with shaved ice.
  3. Swizzle the drink until the ice is melted and the drink almost frappé.
  4. Strain into a cocktail glass.
