The Hard Sell is an easy sell in Chicago, where it was born in 2009. And Chicago largely remains its audience, probably owing to the fact that bartender Brad Bolt loaded the gin drink with ¾ ounce of the treasured local poison, Malört.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 1 ounce gin, preferably Beefeater
  • 1 ounce gin, preferably Beefeater
  • 1 ounce St-Germain
  • 1 ounce St-Germain
  • 3/4 ounce Malört
  • 3/4 ounce Malört
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled.
  2. Strain into a coupe.
  3. Express a grapefruit peel over the surface of the drink and discard.
