After close at L.A.’s Honeycut, shift drink often involves “baby” shots of tequila and Cosmopolitans. Bartender Mary Bartlett and bar manager Dave Fernie “will make each other Cosmos sometimes, just because it’s just quick and silly and easy to chug,” as Bartlett says.
While she sticks to the usual cranberry juice, Fernie prefers to mix his up with Honeycut’s housemade pomegranate grenadine, below.
1/2 ounce pomegranate grenadine (See Editor's Note)
Combine all ingredients in mixing tin.
Add ice, shake and double-strain into a chilled glass.
Chug with your work wife (optional).
To make pomegranate grenadine: Measure one part pomegranate juice (preferably POM Wonderful), one part white granulated sugar, .0075 parts malic acid, .005 parts citric acid and .0006 parts orange extract (preferably Terra Spice) and combine in high-speed blender. Blend until incorporated and store cold.
