I Don’t Mind You Shooting Me, Frank, But Take It Easy on the Rum

Derek Brown, Mockingbird Hill | Washington DC

“I would totally make [this] on the spot to express the Yuletide spirit,” says Mockingbird Hill owner Derek Brown. In true holiday spirit, this drink takes a classic Christmas staple, candy canes, and mixes it with booze—here, in the form of crème de menthe and two types of rum.

For those wondering, the name is a quote from holiday classic Scrooged, modified to stave off a Bacardi lawsuit.

“We could muck it up with bitters and perhaps use conifer tincture, as we’ve done in other drinks,” he adds. “But, for me, ripping candy canes by the dozens off the Christmas tree is what Christmas is all about. Add rum, and we’re set.”
