“The Amaretto Sour is quite possibly the archetypal bad drink,” says John deBary. For his personal update, deBary pares the recipe down to its essentials, offering a low-proof version built on Luxardo’s bitter and pungent Amaretto di Saschira.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 2 ounces Luxardo Amaretto di Saschira
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 egg white
  • 3 dashes Angostura Orange Bitters

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin and dry shake without ice.
  2. Add ice and shake again.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, or a rocks glass over ice.
