Café Royal Cocktail Book by W.J. Tarling, 1937

This recipe is adapted from Café Royal Cocktail Book, first published in London in 1937. It remains a subject of fascination: a whiskey-based cocktail that seems to have all the trappings of a tiki drink.


Serving: 1

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce allspice dram
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin and shake with ice.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
