Night Tripper

Chris Hannah, Arnaud’s French 75 | New Orleans

This built-in-flask drink pays tribute to New Orleans music legend Dr. John (the Night Tripper is one of his nicknames). Here, two Italian liqueurs, Strega and Averna, add bitterness and complexity to the whiskey base, which is pre-chilled before serving. Should you happen to visit New Orleans when it’s not Mardi Gras, you can order this drink from bartender Chris Hannah (served in a glass, over ice) at Arnaud’s French 75 Bar.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce Averna
  • 3/4 ounce Averna
  • 3/4 ounce Strega
  • 3/4 ounce Strega
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters

Directions
  1. Funnel all of the ingredients into a flask, cap tightly and chill.
  2. Serve directly from the flask, or pour over ice.
