On every cocktail menu, the Broken Shaker on Miami Beach includes a seasonal Caipirinha, always with a traditional Brazilian cachaça base and a few rotating elements in keeping with the spirit of a fruit-forward drink, blended together with a bit of sugar and a heap of fresh fruit garnish. This version is evocative of the autumn months (when Miami Beach still swelters at 80 degrees) with the addition of spiced apple syrup layered over lime juice for lift.
- 2 ounces cachaça
- 1 ounce spiced apple syrup (see Editor's Note)
- 1 ounce lime juice
Garnish: lemon wheel and a flower
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.
- Add ice and shake until chilled.
- Strain over ice into a rocks glass.
- Garnish with a lemon wheel and a flower.
To make spiced apple syrup, add 1 cup fresh pressed apple juice, 1 cup water, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 allspice berries and 1 cloves into a pot and bring to boil. Add 1 cups organic sugar, stir to dissolve and turn heat off. Allow mixture to cool before storing in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
