Vesper

The drink made famous by 007.

Though not exactly a Martini, this is the cocktail that James Bond originally asked for “shaken, not stirred.” The Vesper was first mentioned in Sir Ian Fleming’s novel Casino Royale, and it was 007 himself who specified that the drink be made with vodka, gin, and Kina Lillet: “Three measures of Gordon’s; one of vodka; half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it over ice, and add a thin slice of lemon peel.” The 2:1 ratio here gives this version of the Vesper a better balance and allows all the ingredients to shine.
