Second Spring Punch

Fernet and strawberry syrup provide bittersweet contrast in this Planter’s Punch variation, created circa 2018 for Denver’s Poka Lola Social Club, says Devin Chapnick, now bar manager at Night Pearl in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 2 ounces Fernet-Branca
  • 2 ounces Fernet-Branca
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice
  • 1/2 ounce Strawberry Cold Syrup (see Editor’s Note)
  • 1/2 ounce Strawberry Cold Syrup (see Editor’s Note)
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice

Garnish: mint sprig, strawberry, lime peel

Directions
  1. Whip shake all ingredients with 1 to 2 ice cubes.
  2. Strain into a large snifter and top with crushed ice.
  3. Garnish with mint sprig, strawberry and lime peel.

Strawberry Cold Syrup
Combine equal parts finely diced strawberries and granulated sugar. Mix with a spatula, and leave for two hours. Strain.
