“I try to go a bit more heavy on the flavor of the snaps for Christmas… since the food around Christmas tends to be a bit more rich compared to the lighter cuisine in the summer,” says Jakob Sundin, Stockholm-based bartender and founder of the Bartender’s Choice Awards. In this version of his snaps, Sundin infuses vodka with all the best cold-weather spices—cumin, anise, fennel seeds—for a Christmas-ready take on the traditional Scandinavian liquor.

Ingredients
Yield: 750 ml
- 1 bottle vodka , preferably Absolut
- 2 tsp dried cumin
- 2 tsp anise
- 3 tsp fennel seeds
- 3 thin lemon zest twists
- 1 orange zest twist
- 1 - 2 sugar cubes, to taste
Directions
- Infuse bottle of Absolut for approximately 24 hours with the spices, fruit and sugar.
Editor's Note
If the snaps gets too powerful, you can easily correct that by adding more neutral vodka to it. When satisfied with the intensity of the flavor, bring down the ABV to around 35% by adding a splash of water.
