Building on a base of chamomile-infused Scotch, Benjamin Smith’s Sleepwalker is an ideal antidote to cold weather blues. Though it was inspired by the posset, a historic British milk drink curdled with wine or ale, this modern variation quite closely resembles an eggnog, to which a measure of Averna lends welcomed bitterness.
- 1 ounce chamomile-infused Scotch, preferably Johnnie Walker Red Label (see Editor's Note)
- 3/4 ounce Averna
- 3/4 ounce posset mix (1:1:1, egg yolk:whey:honey)
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin with ice and roll the mixture back and forth between the tins.
- Strain into a tea cup.
1 750ml bottle Scotch
3 bags chamomile tea (or 2 1/2 teaspoons loose leaf)
Combine ingredients and let steep for 24 hours. Strain and bottle.
