A spinoff of a spinoff, this Manhattan variant is a riff on The Smokey Stingray—a Scotch Manhattan eventually known as just the Stingray—which Lasher-Walker debuted in New York, when he still worked there. Eventually, his beverage director convinced Lasher-Walker that there should be a whole subcategory of Stingrays—two-ingredient, mentholated Manhattans. Knob Creek® Rye subs in perfectly, its heavy oak profile balancing the bitterness of the Branca Menta, while its baking spice notes integrate well with the more herbal qualities. It’s quickly become one of Lasher-Walker’s most popular “Rays.”

  • 2 parts Knob Creek® Rye
  • 1 part Branca Menta

Garnish: lemon twist

Directions
  1. Combine ingredients in a rocks glass over ice and stir.
  2. Garnish with a lemon twist.
