Wiz Fizz

Pamela Wiznitzer, Seamstress | New York

“This cocktail is completely narcissistic,” explains Pamela Wiznitzer, who combined her favorite ingredients together to create this recipe. Gin forms the base, while Cynar adds a hint of bitterness; lemon adds acidity; and vanilla syrup, egg white and heavy cream combine for a rich body. Then, the whole thing gets topped with root beer. In Wiznitzer’s words, “This is like a root beer float on crack.”

Serving: 1

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin, preferably Aviation
  • 1/2 ounce Cynar
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice
  • 3/4 ounce vanilla demerara syrup (see Editor's Note)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 ounce heavy cream
  • rootbeer, preferably Dr. Brown's (to top)

Garnish: grated nutmeg, straw

  1. Fill a highball glass 1/5 full with root beer and set aside.
  2. Combine the remaining ingredients, except the cream, in a mixing tin and dry shake without ice.
  3. Add the cream and dry shake again.
  4. Add ice and shake again for 30 to 40 seconds.
  5. Strain the ice out of the shaker and dry shake once more for 1 minute.
  6. Pour the contents of the shaker into the highball glass and allow to settle before adding a final topper.
  7. Garnish with grated nutmeg and a straw.
