Tip Your Bartender: Apothecary 330, Fort Lauderdale

April 14, 2020

Story: Punch Staff

art: Nick Hensley

This Cuban classic is right at home in Kyshali Ramirez’s home state of Florida, and better yet, easy to recreate at home.

Tip Your Bartender is a social media initiative from PUNCH connecting our readers with bar teams across the country via Instagram. We’re asking select bartenders to share their drinks (albeit virtually) and encourage the PUNCH audience to “tip” during the economically uncertain times ahead.

Between March 30th and May 29th, for every dollar tipped to bar teams, the Bacardi family of brands has generously committed to matching it with an equal gift to our charitable partner, Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation.

Kyshali Ramirez, Apothecary 330 | Fort Lauderdale, Florida

While this Cuban classic is right at home in Kyshali Ramirez’s home state of Florida, it’s also straightforward enough to make at your home bar. Apothecary 330’s version calls for equal parts aged rum and bianco vermouth, lifted by housemade grenadine.

 1 ½ ounces Santa Teresa 1796 rum
1 ½ ounces bianco vermouth
½ ounce dry Curaçao
1 barspoon of homemade grenadine (see Editors’ Note)

Garnish: orange twist

Combine all the ingredients in a mixing glass. Add ice and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with an orange twist.

Editors’ Note

Housemade Grenadine

8 ounces POM pomegranate juice
4 ounces sugar
5 to 6 drops of orange blossom water

Add pomegranate juice to a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Cook until reduced by half, about 4 ounces. Add sugar and stir until completely dissolved. Remove from heat and add 5 to 6 drops of orange blossom water. Bottle and refrigerate.
