This pioneering vegan restaurant was not only among the first upscale restaurants to showcase a small, focused wine list, but owner and wine director Kate Jacoby was also one of the first natural wine devotees in Philly. Featuring one of the city’s most beautiful interiors—the restaurant occupies a Victorian mansion with ornate original details as far as the eye can see—the scene here is refreshingly mixed. And there’s no lifestyle manifesto to be found on the menu, just seriously good cooking that has had many a meat eater overlook the obvious omission. Jacoby also has an eagle eye when it comes to picking out small producers with a passion for their craft, and the farmstead ethos of the food menu paired with her dedication to organic, biodynamic and natural wines is a philosophical match made in heaven.
