The Barraquito is one of the most iconic drinks of the Canary Islands, but it remains mostly unheard of in the rest of Spain. On its home islands, however, the layered coffee cocktail acts as a midmorning pick-me-up, a post-meal ritual and an intergenerational tradition.

Ingredients

- heavy 3/4 ounce sweetened condensed milk
- heavy 3/4 ounce Licor 43
- 3 1/2 ounces whole milk, frothed
- 1 ounce espresso
Garnish: lemon twist, ground cinnamon
Directions
- Add the condensed milk to a small heatproof mug.
- Gently pour the Licor 43 on top, to form a distinct layer.
- Add half of the frothed milk as the next layer, followed by the shot of espresso, and then the rest of the frothed milk.
- Garnish with a twist of lemon and a dusting of ground cinnamon.
