Sam Levy, owner of the Fern Bar in Sebastopol, California, created this drink as the ultimate nightcap when he was the bar manager at the Michelin three-starred Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena, California. Combine and stir one ounce each of Fernet-Branca, Averna and Dolin Blanc vermouth over ice and serve neat in a chilled double Old-Fashioned glass. Garnish with a flamed orange zest if you’re feeling ambitious.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 1 ounce Fernet-Branca
  • 1 ounce Fernet-Branca
  • 1 ounce Averna
  • 1 ounce Averna
  • 1 ounce blanc vermouth, preferably Dolin
  • 1 ounce blanc vermouth, preferably Dolin

Garnish: flamed orange twist

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass over ice and briefly stir.
  2. Strain into an Old-Fashioned glass.
  3. Garnish with a flamed orange twist.
