This drink plays off the highlighted barrel and toasted sugar notes in Bacardi 8, placing them at the fore and letting sherry and floral vermouth elevate those flavors instead of competing with them. It’s an easy year-round drink that can be appreciated by the pros while also serving as a great introduction to rum cocktails.
2 ounces Bacardi 8
¾ ounce amontillado sherry
¾ ounce dry vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Garnish: orange twist
Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass. Fill with ice and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with an orange twist.
