“A vermouth cocktail is great in the afternoon, as an aperitif or whenever really,” says Wildhawk’s Karri Kiyuna, who likes to serve this drink as an introduction to the ambrato style of vermouth.

The drink is named after Kiyuna’s grandmother. “She liked to do things her way, and though she was not a big alcohol drinker, I think she would have enjoyed the bright flavors in this low-ABV, floral cocktail.”

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 2 ounces Martini & Rossi Ambrato Vermouth
  • 2 ounces Martini & Rossi Ambrato Vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce aquavit, preferably Linie
  • 1/2 ounce aquavit, preferably Linie
  • 1/2 ounce Luxardo Bitter Bianco
  • 1/2 ounce Luxardo Bitter Bianco
  • 1 dash peppercorn tincture (see Editor's Note)
  • 1 dash peppercorn tincture (see Editor's Note)

Garnish: lemon twist

Directions
  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir until chilled.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

Peppercorn Tincture
¼ cup whole back peppercorns
overproof vodka

Steep peppercorns in overproof vodka to taste, typically at least three days. Strain and bottle.
