Hotel San José’s Michelada

Jen Braafladt, Hotel San José | Austin

This meaty Michelada is built on the bones of a traditional south-of-the-border recipe that forgoes the tomato base. Instead, the Tex-Mex version from Hotel San José in Austin gets its savory flavor from the one-two punch of soy and Worcestershire sauce.

Serving: 1

  • 2 dashes Tabasco
  • 2-3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 ounce dark soy sauce
  • 2-3 ounces lime juice
  • 4-6 twists fresh coarse-ground black pepper
  • 1 Mexican beer
  • rimming salt

Garnish: lime wheel

  1. Rim a pint glass with salt.
  2. Fill the glass halfway with ice cubes.
  3. Add all ingredients except for beer over ice and garnish with a lime wheel.
  4. Serve with a stirring straw and beer on the side.
