When TJ Lynch bought the space that would become Mother’s Ruin over a decade ago, he discovered a case of Tecate left behind in the refrigerator by the previous owners. Recalling a trend started by Toby Maloney years prior that consisted of putting salt and lime on top of a beer can—a nod to Maloney’s years spent in Texas—Lynch ran to the corner bodega to pick up some Cholula (“my all-time favorite hot sauce,” says Lynch), and from then on, the Loaded Tecate has been a signature of Mother’s Ruin.


Serving: 1

  • 1 can Tecate
  • 1 lime wedge
  • pinch kosher salt
  • Cholula , to taste

  1. Squeeze a lime wedge and sprinkle some salt over an open can of Tecate.
  2. Add Cholula to taste and serve.
