Famed for creating such new-classic cocktails as The Penicillin and the Paper Plane, here’s one more potential classic for the books from Sam Ross, now of NYC’s Attaboy. Muddle the cucumber lightly to release a pleasing hint of freshness—you don’t need to mash it to bits.

Ingredients

Serving: 1

  • 2 slices cucumber
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey
  • ½ ounce dry vermouth
  • ½ ounce Amaro Montenegro

Garnish: lemon twist

Directions
  1. Gently muddle cucumber in a mixing glass.
  2. Add remaining ingredients to the mixing glass.
  3. Add ice and stir until chilled.
  4. Strain into a coupe.
  5. Garnish with a lemon twist.
